Saúl:
Hi everyone! We arrived in Mexico City on Saturday
morning and traveled
by bus to Xochimilco. The trip was a bit long, but we saw the canals on the way, and it was really
exciting. We are staying in a small Airbnb near the water, and it has been very quiet
and relaxing. The weather has been good so far... It has been sunny most of the
time, it has only been a little cool
and fresh in the evenings.
We have joined the "Save the Axolotl program" which works to protect the axolotls and their natural
home in the canals.
Since I arrived, I have cleaned trash from the
water, planted an aquatic plant, and red an axolotl in the conservation center.
I also built a small
shelter for one and have spoken with a local
person about how to
take care of the environment.
In the next few days, I'm going to take a boat trip visit a chinampa, and I'm going to organize
a small account about the importance of the
axolotl. I’m
going to take photos of axolotls.
It was an amazing experience.

Hello, everyone!
A few days ago, I arrived
in Mexico City and then I traveled
to Xochimilco to discover
more about its culture and nature. The trip was calm but full of colors because
I saw the trajineras decorated with flowers and the floating markets on the
canals. I stayed in a family’s house near the chinampas, and every morning I woke up with the
sound of birds.
The weather
has been warm and pleasant,
although this morning
it was a little cloudy.
When the sun came out, the water reflected the
light in a beautiful way.
The program Save
the Axolotl Habitat is very inspiring. It was designed to protect this
endangered amphibian and to teach people how to care for the canals and their
environment. I visited the information center,
and I learned about the traditional farming methods that help keep the
ecosystem alive. During my stay, I’ve already seen several axolotls swimming
slowly in their tanks. I’vealso
noticed how the water quality changes
from one area to another,
and this made me understand how important
conservation efforts are.
In the next
days, I’m going to visit a greenhouse where chinampa farmers are growing
vegetables. On Saturday morning, I’m joining a group of students, and we are planting native flowers along the
canals. Finally, I’m going to participate in a cultural
activity and I’m learning about the legends
that connect the axolotl with Mexican traditions.
